This year I will.......................................

Well howdy doody folks! It's a little but belated but I hope you all had a fabulous festive period filled with whatever and whomever makes you very happy!

We all had a good time, this year was the first the Johnny (who is 4....and a half!) has really been properly excited about Christmas, the "How many sleeps is it now Mummy?" "Is it Christmas Eve today?" type questions started as soon as the first window in the advent calendar (Lego Starwars, shared between them both!) was opened! The lead up to the big day was filled with Nativity plays, Christmas parties, visiting friend and relations to deliver and collect present, last minute shopping and then..........all too soon it was time for the decorations to come down and "real life" to return!

No more long(ish) lies in, no more lounging in jimjams until lunch time, no more chocolate for breakfast and the seemingly endless rain we had at the start of the month, days and days filled with rain, not even drizzle but proper, persistent rain.....bleurgh!

So my plan to have my word for the year picked and settled by the time "real life" returned stalled slightly in the stark face of grey January reality and I've only now got it settled in my mind.

Last year I was inspired to pick a word for the year rather than making those vague "get fit and be more organised" type resolutions that I always had done before.  You can have a look at last years word and the thinking behind my choice here http://craftylou2.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/this-year-i-willt-h-r-i-v-e.html

Choosing a word certainly helped me keep a sense of perspective and a focus on how I wanted the year to develop for me and so to this years choice.................................................................*drumroll*

This year I will....................................SHINE!
I will excel, I will improve upon and I will accomplish.  And not in a flash (oh no!) in a radiant, glimmering, gleaming, shimmering, sparkle of  flair and talent!

And now because I've written it down and all of you know, I'll have to!

This year I will.........T H R I V E !!

I don't generally write a list of New Years resolution and never get past the vague promises to myself to get fit and be more organised!

This year however, inspired by Regina Lord, I've chosen a word of the year.  I love Regina's blog, Creative Kismet (and her artwork!) and her post about selecting a word to help build, support and guide you through the year really struck a chord.

I chose THRIVE.  It was actually quite difficult, when I sat down and thought about all my hopes, goals and dreams for the year to condense it into one word! I realised that growing, building, branching out and stretching all figured highly in the list and thrive seemed to fit the bill perfectly!

So this year I will THRIVE! I will do well, I will advance, I will bloom, I will blossom, I will develop, I will grow, I will prosper, I will shine and I will succeed......I will, I will, I will!!

Happy New Year everyone, what will YOU do this year?!

Happy new year and lang may yer lum reek!

I hope you all had a fabulous New Year or Hogmanay as we call it round these parts! We're lucky here in Comrie to have the flambeaux take place, I wish I had some photos to post but alas I'm not normally to capable of focusing a camera come midnight!  There are some brilliant photos here on Flickr to give you the idea!  The flambeaux torches are lit at midnight and are carried to the North, South, East and West of the village, proceeded by the pipe band and followed by a fancy dress parade, it's quite a spectacle.

It makes for a fantastic atmosphere as there is a great turnout of villagers and visitors.  It's a good way of welcoming in the New Year with your friends and neighbours without the stress of going to a New Years Eve party which are always an anti climax.  The return of the flambeaux to the square is the signal for everyone to depart and do a bit of first footing.  I think our record was getting back to the house at 5am, not nowadays with two little people in tow..but give it 3 or 4 years!!

I forgot to take photos of most of the presents I made but here is my favourite one!  This sketch book was supposed to be a Christmas present for my friend Anna who was in need of a bit of creative inspiration for the New Year...but in the rush of Christmas it didn't get finished.  It's now winging its way to her as a New Year present, complete with some inspiring quotations and images I know she loves!

I traced to word inspiration on to cream cotton and then embroidered french knots in three shades of turquoise around the outside of the word.  The french knots are raised off the material, giving it a lovely 3D touchy-feely vibe.
